Overview
The CR-P1 - Topcon’s 3D laser scanning technology reimagined. In early 2025, Topcon announced a strategic partnership with FARO Technologies with the vision to develop new, cutting-edge solutions for the laser scanning market. Historically, Topcon’s GTL scanning range was known for being too big for 3D scanning, if you haven’t seen or heard of the GTL range it’s pretty much a robotic total station with a scanner on top - it wasn’t the most practical scanner on the market by any means. FARO Technologies are well renowned for their strong position in the laser scanning industry.
The CR-P1’s design is based on the FARO Focus range; it's much more compact than Topcon’s previous scanners. The CR-P1 is lightweight, and is designed to be mounted on the tripod both direct and inverse making its scanning capabilities more diverse in terms of the applications Topcon will now see their scanners fit into. The camera has a large 300° vertical / 360° horizontal field of view, with the CR-P1 S having a distance range of 100m and the CR-P1 M’s 200m range, the CR-P1 range sees a 3D accuracy of 2mm @ 10m. The CR-P1 uses WLAN connectivity with a laptop/field controller to use Collage Site, your infield scanning partner.

Collage Site
So Collage Site, how does it work? Collage Site allows its users to carry out scans, process and view data in real-time, and obtain in-field QA results. Collage site runs on robust laptops or field controllers, which must run a minimum of Windows 11, Intel Core i7, and have 1TB storage - this is due to the complex processing which happens in Collage Site. Users can import control points for a localisation as a .CSV file, or carry out scans without control, there is also the option to import 3D models and other scan projects/stations. Export options include DXF, PTX, PTS, LAS, E57.
Scans can be directly sent over to Collage Web, this is an online, cloud-based platform which allows users to share scan projects progress with their clients. In Collage Web, we can also check measurements and inspects scans further, and from here data can be exported and shared.
